THE BEGINNING

The creation of passionate mother and runner, Shelly McInnis, Race for Pace is a key fundraising and awareness walk and run event supporting local Calgary based non-profit organization, Pacekids Programs for Children with Motor Disabilities Society.

Participants laced up for the first time in 2008, fulfilling Shelly’s dream of raising awareness and funds for an organization that dramatically and positively impacted the life of her daughter, Darcie, and their family as they coped with the challenges associated with Darcie’s Cerebral Palsy. Since that summer, the annual event has successfully generated nearly $230,000 for Pacekids Programs, numerous media coverage, and countless memories for thousands of race participants and supporters.

ABOUT PACEKIDS PROGRAMS

Pacekids Programs is a Calgary charity that provides family orientated, therapeutic, and active learning programs tailored for infants, children and youth with special needs, and their families.

Pacekids use a unique intra-disciplinary approach to address the physical, behavioral and developmental needs of the child, an approach that empowers parents with information and skills to successfully meet the day-to-day challenges.

Pacekids’ brings together small groups of children with similar needs; provides direct contact with other children which offers the motivation and modeling to promote confidence, learning and social development. The children learn at their own “pace” while having fun with their peers, in an inclusive and accepting environment. Pacekids helps kids with special needs discover their hidden potential
